Wax On, Wax Off: A Warning and a Miracle Product

Once your two year old discovers crayons, I would recommend sorting the laundry very carefully and searching all pockets...unless you want to spend two hours with a gallon of Krud Kutter, sweat, and a few tears.

When Kevin took the kids to his parents' place so I could have a work weekend at the house, I did a load of laundry, only top open the dryer door and find clothes peppered in some really vibrant Crayolas:

After hyperventilating for about 30 seconds, I ran to the computer, did some Googling and found a message board that mentioned this, touting it as a miracle worker:

Miraculous was what I was going for, so I went out to Lowes, grabbed a gallon, and spent the next hour and a half scrubbing, dunking, and swishing the salvagable clothes in Krud Kutter. While I wasn't able to get the really concentrated spots out, this product is pretty awesome. I was able to save a lot of stuff that I never would have thought would be wearable again.

And I've since used Krud Kutter on other stains, including ring around the collar, and it is really effective. Not to mention it's biodegradable and non toxic. It's my new laundry fave.

On a sad note, the Square Dress, Monica's fave dress and the first successful garment I ever made, will never be the same. A new Square Dress (which is really a Stripe Dress) is currently a work in progress. RIP Square Dress.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink

Last week, I had a little mishap in the kitchen. While rinsing dishes, the sprayer nozzle on the sink catapulted into the air and a fountain of water ensued, drenching me and anything else within a two foot radius. It probably wouldn't have been that bad if my reflexes were a little more cat-like, or at least less like that of a Tired Pregnant Lady (TPL). I mopped up the mess and battled underneath the sink to feed the sprayer hose back through the impossibly small hole so that it would not gush water all over the floor everytime I turned on the faucet. Did I mention that while this was going on, I should have left the house for mass 10 minutes prior?

Kevin's parents came to town a couple days later, and Mr. Fix It/Dad in Law made an attemtp to find the part we needed to replace, which is apparently unavailable at most home improvement stores because it's an obscure German make of faucet. So, the hose remained jammed into the drain and liable to pop up and spray any innocent person who so dared to turn on the water...until today.

Kevin and I decided it was time to replace the kitchen sink and all its various entities. We went to Lowe's, picked up everything we needed and scheduled one of their folk to install the sink. The plumber came today, ripped out our old sink and its accoutrements only to find out that the sink we bought will not fit in the hole cut into the Corian counter. We have three options: find a sink that will fit, get someone to cut the Corian hole bigger, or just live with a kitchen in which everything is functional but the kitchen sink. After the recent oven/range installation fiasco (read: delivery guy cutting himself and bleeding on our kitchen floor, new range sitting in the middle of my kitchen for two days, cutting Corian, grinding Corian, knotching wood floors and wiping every spice jar I own because it's covered in Corian and saw dust), the TPL in me was ready to just leave the room like this:

Sane Andrea overode the TPL and I made the trek to two different Lowe's locations to purchase the sink we are pretty sure will fit into the gaping hole. Say a prayer folks. If you see a picture of another gaping hole tomorrow, you'll know the TPL won out...big time.

Ugh!

Today is just one of "those" days.

Phone Frenzy: I'm on one phone line reviewing printing order details with Printer Guy. My colleague is on another line placing a supply order for said printing order with Supply Guy. Printer Guy tells me I can get supplies cheaper through them. I put Printer Guy on hold and book it over to Colleague. She puts Supply Guy on hold, and I tell her to cancel the supply order. She picks up a line and attempts to cancel the order. I run back over to my phone and pick up the other line, which is actually Supply Guy. So Colleague thinks she's talking to Supply Guy but she actually just told Printer Guy to cancel the 38,000 envelope printing order. I then put Supply Guy back on hold, tell Colleague what happened and call Printer Guy back to say the order is back on and we'll get the supplies from them.

Parking: I work downtown and parking is a beast. I call myself a Parking Shark, as I spend part of each morning stalking around town for the prey: a perfect parking space less than a mile from my office door. Today, I did not feel like "sharking" right away, so I parked at a meter that I need to start feeding in an hour. Above Printer/Supply situation comes up and I lose any recollection of meter-parked car. I walk out of the building to go to noon mass and what do I see but my little Civ sitting right in front of my building with a $40 ticket blowing in the breeze under the windshield wiper. I was so flustered I skipped mass and moved my car to a non-meter spot right away.

As much as I want to do this, I know there is hope. As Anne Shirley said,

Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it.

Note to Kevin

Don't let me handle your prized possessions. If we keep making bets on them, we're going to have more dogs than we can handle!
