Here's to Sanity

For those of you who are close to us or have spent more than three hours with our daughter, you know that Monica is NOT a good eater. It is unclear what the problem is (reflux, gas???) but, bottom line, most feedings are cause for screaming. Afterwards, she's happy as a clam. If only they could talk...

At any rate, this apparent discomfort has caused much grief for all and has resulted in me not making enough breastmilk for her. The past couple weeks have been rough, most likely because our little punkin has been rather hungry. The switch to formula has begun.

I feel some guilt, as happens to many moms when they stop breastfeeding. But, it came down to the fact that I felt bound for a mental institution if I went on one more day. I wasn't sleeping and couldn't think of anything but her sleeping and eating habits. Within 48 hours of the decision to stop breastfeeding, we are all happier.

And, bathtime is fun again! Seriously, she might be the cutest baby ever.

Hi!

I like to keep up on you and your little Monica because she's very close in age to my little Sammy-Hammy... and yes, she's WAY cute! : )

Anyway, as a mom of 5, and perhaps for your next baby, in case you don't know... (No one really ever told me...)I found that what I eat DOES make a differance on the baby's comfort and trying to nurse... broccoli is a real bummer for baby... also chocolate (say it ain't so!!) and soda! and even milk and milk products with my #4! Now, some babies may be more sensitive than others... My #4 seemed to be the most sensitive and I really had to watch what I ate... But!! It actually got better with pro-biotics for baby! a nutritionist friend of mine, that has done lots of research on natural remedies suggested that I try Natren Life Start (you can google it) and I began giving her a quarter tsp twice a day mixed with my breast milk, then nursed her. It helps with their digestion by keeping the "good" bacteria in her tummy working to fight the bad... My goodness! It was like night and day! She was a brand new baby! and she slept a lot better and was MUCH happier! I was sold! So you can keep it in mind... When I asked my pediatrician about using it, he told me that even though it wasn't something medically approved, it shouldn't hurt the baby, as it was just something that the body produces naturally, anyway. He told me, "if it's helping, use it!" We mom's do what we gotta! : ) God Bless!

Hi Andrea! I'm thrilled to hear things are going better. You are a WONDERFUL mom! Can we hang out sometime soon? Perhaps a BBC event? Also, I have a CS Lewis book on CD I thought you might enjoy.
love, Kara
